These DIY mud cloth painted pumpkins were so fun and easy to make, y’all are going to love this super easy DIY tutorial and how to style them! I’ve partnered with JOANN on this DIY project and am so excited to announce I will be working with them for the next few months during their Holiday season! Pinch me, please.

I’m happy to be able to bring smaller scale DIY projects to my blog while still dishing out some awesome remodeling and renovations. It’s so empowering to “do it yourself” and I teach that through all aspects, even smaller home décor projects!

How to DIY Mud Cloth Painted Pumpkins

For this project I used both paint and a Sharpie paint pen and I can tell you they both get the job done great! It really comes down to preference in the long run. First things first – Did you know JOANN has tons and I mean tons of Holiday Décor? I had to take Livvie out of the cart to fit the amount of faux pumpkins I was shoving in there. It was all for a good cause, I mean we need all the faux pumpkins we can get – am I right?

Project Materials Needed:

Step 1 : Choose your Pumpkins

Keep in mind for this project you don’t have to worry about the color of the pumpkins you are purchasing! They are all going to be painted either way. I did find some amazing faux pumpkins from JOANN. My husband went as far as to ask why I bought real pumpkins for this project!

Step 2 : Prep your Paint Area

I set up some poster board paper that only cost about $1 as my paint area. I do not use newspaper due to all the excess ink that rubs off onto my white table and the wet painted pumpkins.

Step 3 : Paint the Base Coat of your Pumpkins

I chose neutral colors for my pumpkins and went with a more modern color scheme! Be sure to paint two coats for the base as you will see the underlying color if not.

Step 4 : Choose your Mud Cloth Design

This is the fun part! Choosing your mud cloth design can come from just about anywhere. This design here was inspired by my coffee mug. You can check out my Pinterest board for some mud cloth design inspo for your mud cloth pumpkins!

I decided to add a few different designs to show some variety by painting some smaller pumpkins a solid color and some medium sized ones in two tone colors.

My favorite part about the holidays are styling a fall tablescape and what better way to do it than with your freshly painted mud cloth pumpkins. Don’t worry this tablescape is super budget friendly and easy to style!

Materials Needed :

Tip 1 : Layer, Layer, Layer!

Layering is your best friend here and the term “more is less” does not apply friends!

  • Start with mini pallet boards and add all your DIY Mud Cloth Pumpkins on top.
  • Add in sprigs of eucalyptus here and there making your way around the table until it is “full.”
  • Add in your mini candles sporadically around the mud cloth pumpkins.

Tip 2 : Add Natural Elements to Place Settings

Place settings seem so bland when you’ve got the essentials: plates, flatware, drinkware, and napkins.

  • If you have a light table use a dark charger and interchange throughout the plates.
  • If you’re on a budget use craft paper as a charger!
  • Add in a natural element like a birch wood slice, leather napkin rings, or a sprig of eucalyptus.
  • Get creative with your name cards! I used chalkboard circles and chalk paint for a pop and to tie in the black mud cloth pumpkins.

Tip 2 : Be bold and Be different

Don’t be afraid to venture outside your creative box! I am always trying to keep my projects budget friendly and adding my own twist on things.

  • Add texture and colors together you wouldn’t normally keep together
