Wow! it is completely surreal that we traded sandy beaches and ocean life for a cabin in the woods of Tennessee.

It’s still hard to believe that this is our new home! When we decided we wanted to buy something unique when we moved back to Tennessee it was kind of a no brainer we wanted to buy a cabin. Cody is one of those guys that has the Zillow app on his phone and just casually browser year round and wherever we are because he’s a nosey Nelly.

When we moved to Key West, we knew we would end up returning to Tennessee due his job. I mentioned right when we moved to Key West that we would be moving back to Tennessee at some point. The few year stint in Key West was never going to be permanent we always knew it was going to be short term – but not that short term. We requested what’s called an “extension” to extend our time for 1 additional year in Key West. This type of request has to go through multiple people to be approved. We only got it partially approved and learned we later got denied so we had a few months to find a new house, finish house projects and list our home.

When we lived in Tennessee 3 years ago we bought a traditional house built in the 90s and there’s a lot of the same style homes here (see above). If we have the opportunity to buy another home we want it to be different and we CRAVE character. This cabin has the ultimate character and I can’t wait to add more of my own.

Originally this wasn’t our first choice cabin, at some point I’ll be able to share more on that later. We originally didn’t even want to look at this cabin because it was already so updated we felt we weren’t going to do it justice remodeling after it had been remodeled within the last maybe 10 years or so.

After driving by the house we immediately called our realtor and told him we wanted to see it. I will say this home turned into Cody’s number 1 while I was still shattered from the other cabin we didn’t get. Don’t worry, we’ll have a story time eventually – pinky promise! When we went to look at the house the sellers realtor was actually their son and he grew up in the home and his parents built the cabin. We got to learn about the history of how it was built and where the logs were milled. It was surreal and kind of beautiful to hear how this home came to be. But without further or do, let me introduce you to the Cabin of our dreams friends!

We have lots of plans for this house and we want to infuse it with the same design style we had in Key West. Not the beach bungalow, but the Spanish inspired laid back eclectic style we become accustomed to with that home.

We’re sharing a sneak peak at a video walk-through of our new home too on instagram!

What do you guys think? Who wants to see the design inspiration for this home?!
