Kitchen Renovation Before + After

How many of y’all cringe at your kitchen every time you walk into it? Well that’s exactly what I did when I walked into the Kitchen of our first home we purchased. However, I knew how much potential it had and so did my husband. If you’re like me and love a good Kitchen Renovation Before and After you’re in the right place. You’ll be amazed at what some paint can do for your renovation!

Our home was built in 1994 and the only thing thats changed in those 24 is the paint on the walls. So you can imagine how 90’s our home was and still is! If you missed our home tour when we moved in watch it here.

This is what we started with folks! These are the photos of the home walk through before we put in an offer on the house. (Don’t mind the husband, he didn’t know I was taking photos)

BEFORE

I couldn’t wait to get rid of those green monster countertops. Someone please tell me why those were so popular in the 90’s? Our contractor said he couldn’t keep them stocked in the 90’s because they were so popular.

I never understood why people put desks in kitchens, isn’t that what an office is for? I always felt it was a waste of useable countertop space.

First things first, we had a contractor help us with this project because we wanted it done quickly. I’ll let you in on a little secret – it’s not hard to paint cabinets! I wish we would’ve done it ourselves if we weren’t on a time crunch.

All the cabinet doors and drawers were removed, cabinets were sanded to be painted and farm sink was installed! It was my dream to have a farm sink and I have no regrets about it.

Kitchen Renovation Before + After

We decided to paint our oak cabinets Sherwin Williams Snowbound to match the trim and doors.

When choosing our countertop I knew I wanted marble, but the upkeep for marble was not something my husband and I wanted to deal with.

We had 2 options we really liked, Silestone Lagoon and Silestone Lyra. However, we wanted the most similar option to marble that we could get and we chose Silestone Lagoon. A few tips on choosing a countertop, go to the stone yard! Looking at it in person and choosing your own slab is how you will get exactly what you want.

To get an idea of how the quartz options looked next to marble:

Cabinets and Countertops have been installed, but we’re not finished yet!

Kitchen Renovation Before and After

We had the walls painted Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, stipple ceiling scraped, 2 can lights removed to make room for 2 sconces above the sink, removed the floating cabinet and added some DIY Open Shelving.

I installed all of the hardware myself using the Kreg Jig – Cabinet Hardware Jig.

  1. Kourtni, this looks AMAZING! You guys did such a good job + it doesn’t even look like the same kitchen!

    1. Tori,

Thank you sweet friend! I was definitely going for a “not even the same kitchen” look 😉

  2. WOW! What a transformation! It looks great 🙂 Our kitchen was dark and all warm toned when we moved in and we recently gutted it and did all white cabinets and counter tops, subway tile etc. It makes such a difference and ours even looks bigger now – yours does too! xx

  3. I just found you randomly on Pinterest while I was searching bathroom remodel on a budget. I am so inspired by your before and afters! You’ve done an awesome job on your remodel.

PS – what do you store in the laundry looking baskets under the calendar?

    1. Hi Jen!

Thank you so much for the kind and sweet words! The basket now has some toys in it for my daughter while I cook in the kitchen. Easy access for my daughter and nice on the eyes for others 😉

  4. Do you like your brick floors? They are very pretty, but wondered about the upkeep.

    1. Hi Susan!

They were here when we bought the house and it’s nice having something so unique! Cleaning them can be a bit harder than using a swiffer mop, so a regular mop with dish soap and vinegar is how we clean them and the Roomba gets all the little crumbs pretty great! The previous owners sealed them poorly so we do have some of that starting to come off. So I recommend doing lots of research when sealing them!

  5. Hello! Beautiful kitchen. What a difference! Can you tell me where you got the bar stools? Thanks!
