As the holidays start to roll around, holiday prep can be oh so stressful. Especially with traveling here and there to visit family from all over. Our family’s love for Thanksgiving runs deep and we love sharing our own traditions with others. With Cody being in the military we don’t have the opportunity to live close to family. We travel to wherever his job takes us even if that means we’re over 2,000 miles away from the closest relative! Traveling is always expensive during the holidays, so we opt to stay home for Thanksgiving every year now; and with that we’ve started some of our own family traditions.

Friendsgiving has a whole new meaning for us these days, y’all. We host a Friendsgiving at our home on Thanksgiving Day and invite other military families and friends that aren’t able to go home for the holidays. We host a potluck style Friendsgiving and ask all of our friends to bring their favorite family dish, so everyone has a little piece of home with them. I scooped the Home Decorators Collection Dark Walnut Buffet to host all of our friends family dishes for easy access for seconds and thirds if they brought their stretchy pants 😉

We’ve had a few of the same friends at every Friendsgiving we’ve hosted for the past few years and some new faces every year too. With the military you never know when you’ll be moving to the next duty station. I loved how welcoming everyone was our first Thanksgiving away from home I always wanted others to feel the same when they came to ours.

Every year before the holidays I’m sent into a frenzy of all the big and little projects I want to tackle around the house before the festivities begin, like updating our dining room with these StyleWell Windsor Dining Chairs I’ve been eyeing for entertaining or creating an actual bar cart for friends to make holiday drinks! This Friendsgiving we opted for little home updates and a more casual Thanksgiving décor and tablescape with the Gibson Home White Dinnerware Set, Lintex Cotton Napkins, and Euro Ceramica Glassware.

We turned this StyleWell Kitchen Island into a bar cart for our guests to make yummy holiday drinks! Anyone else feel like an adult when they can host a real dinner party? This bar cart is just the icing on the cake for hosting a great Friendsgiving! We even made ours child friendly too with a little hot chocolate station 😉

I’m sharing some design tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way to update our home and prepare for Friendsgiving over on the Home Depot Blog. Did y’all peep that charcuterie board? Most guests won’t want to dive into all the appetizers so they can save room for the turkey and stuffing. So, having light appetizers like a charcuterie board is perfect! The Toscana Acacia Cheese Board comes with a tool set built in so you won’t lose any of the utensils making it easy to keep track of all the server ware!
