Initially, I always thought it was silly to design in phases, but it really let’s you creatively digest the entire space and give it what it’s intended to be. With our kitchen remodel in a lull we decided to jump head first into our Spanish Master Bedroom Phase 1 makeover for our bungalow here in Key West.

You can see the mood board here for the “big picture” on what we’ve got in store for this space. This was only Phase 1 for our Master Bedroom, but paint and home decor can do absolute wonders!

This post is sponsored by Serena and Lily. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you for supporting the brands we truly love!

We partnered with Serena and Lily to add some finishing touches to our Phase 1 master bedroom and they perfectly embody the Spanish style we’re trying to nail in our new house.

That used to look like this…

But really started off like this before we moved in, in June.

Our house here in Key West doesn’t have an en suite for a master bedroom and renters were previously living here – so there were lots of little quirks we had to smooth out after moving in. We also had to figure out how to design around so many windows! We absolutely fell in love with the amount of windows that were in the home. However designing a bedroom with the bed under the window was going to be a design challenge. We shared some of our favorite bedrooms with windows above or behind the beds here in this Design Dilemma: Bedrooms with Beds Under a Window.

Doing anything with our master bedroom right now really wasn’t on our radar for this year. We have been so focused on the new flooring and kitchen remodel that when both went into a lull we needed something to get us out of our funk. Moving and not really unpacking ANYTHING start to take a toll on you. We felt like we were temporarily living in the house we just bought. It really didn’t feel like ours and even Liv kept asking when we could go back to our “other house”. Me to Liv, I felt homesick and this was our new home.

We decided to take a step in the right direction even if we’ll have to take everything out of here when we have to redo the flooring and the laundry list of items we have planned for this space. Every last source is linked at the bottom of the post!

I loved all the textiles we incorporated into the space especially the waffle knit throw from Serena and Lily, the Beachcomber Cotton Throw in Fog.

I’m a huge fan of adding wall sconces on either side of the bed, we had them in our last bedroom that we were fortunate enough to partner with Serena and Lily on too!

The Flynn Single Wall Scone was the perfect addition for giving us that Spanish and beach inspired look we are trying to embody in our coastal home here in Key West.

Some things we still need to tackle for our master bedroom in the future:

  • Refinishing the nightstands – I painted these last year (no sanding required) and they didn’t move to well so we’ve got a lot of chipped paint after being banged around in the moving truck.
  • Adding a ceiling treatment or exposing the ceiling – Cody had the idea of exposing our current ceiling because from the outside the roofline looks like it has a higher pitch than we’re seeing. Wouldn’t it be so cool to have original exposed ceiling beams instead of adding them in?
  • Laying our new flooring – this will require us to remove every last thing in here but it’s all been 100% worth it so far.
  • Removing the additional door entrance (renter perk) – There’s an additional entrance to the house through our bedroom which we have no use for so we’re going to close it right up to give us some extra wall space!
  • Moving the bedroom entrance to the hallway – this is something we’re doing to fix the kitchen layout and bedroom layout.
  • Redoing the closet – when we add the new entrance through the hallway we’ll be going through the closet which will have to be redone.
