Holy Cow, we painted our entire home and kept it a secret. WHAT! I know, I can’t believe we were able to pull it off either. Here’s the scoop on why we kept painting our front door and brick home exterior under wraps.

Behr Paint just released their BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette, featuring 21 on-trend, approachable colors for DIYers and designers. Guess what, we had the opportunity to partner with Behr to showcase the new BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette! As for me, I am excited to reveal my feature color today: Sierra (N240-4)!

20 other creators and I have been working with Behr Paint behind-the-scenes to show how people can use each of these beautiful hues in their homes, and I can’t wait to show you how it turned out! Spoiler alert, it looks crazy good!

Painting our Front Door Exterior

Our old front door was a little too moody and I wanted something a bit more inviting and to be the “lipstick” of the house. I chose Sierra in BEHR MARQUEE Exterior in Semi-Gloss to renovate our exterior front door.

How to Paint your Exterior Front Door

Did you know there are specific directions you paint when painting a door? Here’s a helpful way to always know how to paint a door correctly.

  1. Cut in around the squares and rectangles of the door with a brush, I like to use this Wooster 1.5” angled brush.
  2. Use a foam roller to hit the flat parts of the door in the grain direction of the door (see image below)

Sierra is one of the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette, and it’s an approachable brown with subtle orange undertones to warm up any space. Since we made such a drastic change painting the exterior brick we wanted to keep with a color that would tie in the white with the warm brick steps.

You can now get this color, and all of BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette hues at The Home Depot stores nationwide. Bonus, some colors are available through Behr Express!

We decided to go with the MARQUEE line, because we have heard nothing but goodness about this line from Behr Paint. Boy, did MARQUEE live up to the talk! It is literally one coat coverage and I secretly always thought this was impossible with how seasoned I am with DIY paint projects. I’m glad I was proved wrong! BEHR MARQUEE is a paint & primer in one so I quite literally did one coat of paint over this dark navy front door. Let’s all pick our jaws up off the floor now, y’all.

Finishing Touches

We added some decor from The Home Depot to spruce up the front porch with our newly painted door! I scooped up these beautiful Southern Patio Unearthed Faux Cement Planters in 16” and 17”, because they are lightweight and extremely durable. Plus, the grey is such a great compliment to the white brick and freshly painted door.

We even added this adorable Gibraltar Black Wall Mounted Mailbox and coir door mat to make it feel more like home. The only place we had house numbers were on our mailbox and we thought it would be a nice touch to have them above the mailbox. These Everbilt 5 in. Elevated Black Numbers were the perfect fit, they come in nickel as well!

Painting our Brick Exterior

We also chose to use Smoky White (BWC-13) in Behr Masonry, Stucco & Brick Paint with a Flat finish to transform our salmon brick home into a beautiful flat white oasis. Since we were painting the brick it turned into a snowball effect and we put a fresh coat on the shutters and window trim. We were able to color match a current Behr Paint color, exactly!

Behr also sent over some paint supplies for us to get the project completed! All of our paint and supplies are from The Home Depot including the paint sprayer rental through Home Depot’s Tool Rental Center.

This was the biggest transformation our home has ever gone y’all and I can’t wait to share all the details of how we painted ALL the things. I’ll deep dive more into how we painted our brick exterior too friends, so don’t worry!

This was one of the most time consuming and labor intensive DIY projects I’ve ever done and I am so happy with how this entire project turned out! The best part, I am giving away a $100 gift card to The Home Depot courtesy of Behr Paint so one of YOU can get started on your own painting project!
