We just finished renovating a 50’s Beach Bungalow with our Spanish roots in the heart of Key West, Florida. We sold our home almost fully furnished so we'll be starting from scratch in our cabin. our back deck started looking like we could be on our back deck started looking like we could be on that show hoarders 🫪 You’re probably asking yourself, how did it get that bad to begin with? Well...we downsized from a 2,400 S/F home to a 1,100 S/F home with no garage and a tiny shed in Key West in June at the beginning of hurricane season while also starting a bike rental business. No organization plans were in place and everything just kind of piled up as is does when you don’t know where to put it. We love spanish mediterranean design and wanted to create a spanish terrace in the backyard of the little beach bungalow we bought. Painting the patio cover dark chocolate brown gave it the character it needed and made the space feel so much larger. This entire project was a lot of aesthetic fixes and no major demolition, the only hiccup was learning how to fix a wall that was touching our neighbors fence. Removing/Demoing the breeze way blocks entirely felt difficult with the proximity to our neighbors fence. We did a ton of research and found an option for extending a block wall with pressure treated 2x4s, plywood, tar paper, spiderlath and stucco! My husband, Cody and I learned so many new skills with this backyard project and if you ever want to learn a DIY skill, some form of masonry will save you thousands for future projects! Just know, you can do it too girls! Do it scared, do it not knowing how and you WILL 100% figure it out because everything is figureoutable over here! Glue isn’t just for crafting anymore girls! We tho Glue isn’t just for crafting anymore girls! We thought getting rubber mulch meant, heavier = it wouldn’t move around when we leaf blew the garden beds. ABSOLUTELY NOT, it flies absolutely everywhere and I was sick of sweeping up the mulch in the pathway. This is after 2 coats of DOMINATOR Mulch Anchor and I couldn’t be more happier with how it stays in place with the leaf blower and walking on it.
