As many of you know we are a military family and many of our extended family are currently serving or have served. My grandfather was in the Army and extended family were in all branches of the military (Navy, Marines, Army) and my husband has been in the Army for 12 years now. Wow! We met well after he joined the Army and being a military spouse is the only lifestyle I’m accustomed to.

Here’s a few photos of my grandfather when he served in the 60’s! He met my grandmother while he was serving and she was a senior in high school.

(he’s on the left in the 1st photo and second to left in 2nd photo)

We don’t share too many details about Cody’s job and what he does in the Army for his safety and security reasons, however he gave me the “OK” to share some photos and some more about our life in the military.

Cody joined the Army straight out of high school in 2009 and has been active duty for 12 years now, he plans to retire military. So we’re in it for the long haul, 20+ years of service long haul! While serving in the Army he attended college to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. He absolutely loves his job, like – wakes up every morning happy to serve his country. His perseverance and dedication is what attracted me to him when we first met and has fueled my drive as an entrepreneur.

We’ve been together through countless deployments, training schools, and huge career milestones over the past 9 years.

I couldn’t be more excited and proud to partner with The Home Depot Foundation to share about Operation Surprise and how they’re serving veterans.

How does The Home Depot Foundation Serve Veterans Year-Round?

The Home Depot Foundation is deeply committed to serving veterans and has pledged to invest $500 million in veteran causes by 2025. The Foundation focuses on improving veteran housing through critical home repairs for veterans; seeking to end veteran homelessness; and building accessible smart homes for catastrophically combat-wounded veterans.

Double amputee Brandon and his family move into a mortgage free smart home built by the volunteers of The Home Depot Foundation.

Over the past 10 years, The Home Depot Foundation has helped renovate and enhance more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities, ensuring more of our nation’s heroes have a safe, comfortable place to call home that fits their individual needs.

Our veterans do so much for us and our country and I am so excited to partner with such an amazing nonprofit that wants to give back to those that are most deserving.

A fun little surprise will be in select Home Depot Stores. They will be giving out Veterans Day water bottles to the first 100 customers in store!

Why We Support The Home Depot Foundation

Did you know that 35,000 of Home Depot’s associates are veterans or active duty military?! Being a military spouse I love supporting businesses that support our veterans. Since veterans are such a huge part of Home Depot’s company culture they understand the importance of honoring and serving those who have served us all. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $375 million in veteran causes and improved more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities.
