We never thought we’d downsize better yet move to a tropical place like Key West. We found a 1,200 S/F bungalow and we are so excited to make this our home.

If you missed why we downsized and moved to Key West, Florida you can read about it here.

This home is a sweet little bungalow in the heart of Key West, Florida. So many people ask where when we tell them we bought a house in Key West, it’s literally Key West. The very last Key out of The Florida Keys and the “Southern Most Point” of the United States. When we saw the listing online it wasn’t our first choice but it was in our top 3 houses to tour when we went house hunting in late March. As a kid I always dreamed of that little cottage with a white picket fence. This one had the intimate home feel and the white picket fence…until we went to see it and they PAINTED THE FENCE! I was so sad. Lol.

After touring this home in person and seeing the backyard we fell in love. The mature trees and landscaping made me feel like we had our own little jungle oasis. Outdoor living is a major thing here in Florida so we really wanted to embrace that with a home that was ready and had the potential for that. Mature Palm trees and landscaping take almost 20 years to fully grow and being a military family we aren’t going to be here for 20 years.

This house is by far from perfect but we have so many ideas for this place like MAJOR renovations inside and outside! I’m really excited we get to tackle projects that we never have before.

This house was built in the 50’s before the Master en Suite was a thing, therefore there is no technical master bedroom to todays standards. So we have to decide which bedroom would be best suited for a Master and possibly adding an en suite.

The natural light in this house is out of his world, so much brighter than our previous home which we really wanted. Cody and I love natural light for all the indoor plants and honestly it’s a mood booster.

The back part of the home was an addition at some point and it’s a little noticeable: laundry room, pantry, hallway to backyard, and 3rd bedroom.

Right off the bat we are replacing the floors and painting everything! However, with replacing the floors we have to knock down some walls before flooring install. We’ve been brainstorming the best way to go about everything. However living in Florida you have to have a permit for EVERYTHING. Including replacing your front door, like what?!

Also, there’s an outdoor shower and we’re 100% here for it!

Every project we have planned for this home is going to be so fun and the design is going to be completely different from our other home. It’ll be hard to compare the two since the designs will be completely different, but it definitely be a great time to stretch my design muscles!

What do y’all think of this next house? So much potential, am I right?! I can’t wait to bring you along for the ride, it’s gonna be a bumpy one!
